Marriage Masterclass

It was 2021, one month before Faversham Fringe and my writing buddies, Mat and Adam asked me if I was putting a show into the festival. The festival that I organise. I said I was far too busy to contemplate such a thing, and besides, I didn’t have a show to enter. They told be I had plenty of time. Thirty days? Surely not?

But it appears they are right. After some furious list-making – I cannot make a mindmap to save my life – I realised that I am somewhat of a marriage expert, having been married three times. The idea for Marriage Masterclass was born and I wrote furiously for the next month.

I did the show to a sold-out room. My newly purchased headset mic broadcast the sounds of me swallowing to the whole room (got a great laugh out of that) and then promptly broke. Technical problems aside, the show was very well received and I went on to take it to Morecambe Fringe and Tunbridge Wells Fringe.

I’ve serialised a version of it in essay form, which you can read on this website or on Twitter as a thread (and unrolled here).
